What is a HEPA filter?
HEPA is a standard that was initially developed for the aerospace industry. Nowadays, it represents an excellent indication of filtration. HEPA is an acronym, meaning High Efficiency Particulate Air, and has various classifications. For people that have respiratory problems and/or allergies, getting a vacuum cleaner with HEPA filter is a clever move, as research has shown that HEPA filters on vacuum cleaners are better at blocking pollen, allergens and fine dust particles. The air that gets blown back into the room is therefore clean. However, HEPA filters do not guarantee that allergic reactions are prevented. And when the vacuum cleaner itself leaks dust, a good filter won't reduce the dust emission. A nice side effect of a HEPA filter is that you prevent dirt and dust from getting into the vacuum cleaner's engine.
